This timeless Newbery Honor Book from bestselling author Katherine Paterson about a wisecracking, ornary, completely unforgettable young heroine. Now a feature film starring Kathy Bates, Glenn Close, and Octavia Spencer!

Eleven-year-old Gilly has been stuck in more foster families than she can remember, and she's hated them all. She has a reputation for being brash, brilliant, and completely unmanageable, and that's the way she likes it. So when she's sent to live with the Trotters—by far the strangest family yet—she knows it's only a temporary problem.

Gilly decides to put her sharp mind to work and get out of there fast. She's determined to no longer be a foster kid. Before long she's devised an elaborate scheme to get her real mother to come rescue her. Unfortunately, the plan doesn't work out quite as she hoped it would...

Just finished this book! So, this book is about how a girl named Gilly is put into a foster home, because her mom is trying to find a job. Gilly gets placed with the 'religous' Maime Trotter, William Ernest {W.E.}, and the African American; Mr. Randolph who is blind, and at first she was not happy about it. Then Gilly steals some money and decides to run away to California because her mom lives there, but unfortunately she gets caught. She ends up still staying at Trotter's house, until her grandmother who she never knew about shows up suddenly one day.

Gilly is very real to my students, many who have been through the foster care systems. It also helps to give the students real life experiences

I loved this book you could really see how she changes and it teaches people a lesson.

Gilly Hopkins is going to her third foster family in a year, and before that... well, you don't want to know. But that's all fine with her, as long as she's in charge. When she wants to do well in school, she surges past everyone else in her grade, and when she wants to hand in blank sheets of paper she hands in blank sheets of paper. And Gilly is an expert at getting people to hate her- including her foster parents. But when she moves in with the strange Trotter family and starts a new school- nothing goes as she plans. And her last hope is to pull off a quick escape to her mother in California. But even that doesn't go as planned. And the Great Gilly Hopkins learns that it's okay to love other people, and life doesn't always work out the way it's supposed to- and that's okay.

I heard it is so cool and I want to read it. The name is only so funny --- The Great Gilly Hopkins. I'm sure this book is going to be interesting and I'm am looking forward to read it. What do you think? It is also written by a great writer --- KATHERINE PATERSON.

Gilly is very unmanageable. She does not cooperate to adults orders and she is sometimes even mean. So once again Gilly has to move foster homes and go to a place where the Trotters live. She immediately thinks William Ernest is a baby and a freak. However as time passes she begins to warm up to the Trotters. She first gets sent to help Mr. Randolph, a blind man, to dinner however, she thinks Mr. Randolph is creepy. However, eventually she becomes friends with him. She still is attached to her mother and when she finds out the truth, she wants to go to Trotters. However she has to stay at her grandmother’s place...

It also has some bad words to ………………………

It is a very good book to read it has a lot of sassynes in it to tho lol. And she gets taken away from her mom and moves from foster home to foster home her last foster home was at her grandmas her foster home before that was mrs trotter and she had a little boy named William Ernest.

This book is really great, and so is Gilly! Even though Gilly felt she didn't fit in at first, she finally realized she was with her true family after meeting Courtney.

This book is cool. It must be hard for Gilly to stay with maime Trotter.
