This book was very good! I loved the Mr. Terupt series by the same author, so I was excited to try out this book. Told in five different point of views, Mrs. Woods class experiences all sorts of things. Originally they were supposed to get a very cool 6th grade teacher. But the teacher had to quit because of a family emergency and the school had to pull out an old teacher, Mrs. Woods, from retirement. You will meet Randi- a gymnast, who gets pressured into gymnastics, Gavin- Randi's best friend and a football maniac, Trevor- who seems mean, but when you learn more about him, he has family problems, Scott- a boy who has a huge heart, but always seems to get into problems, and Natalie- a no-nonsense future lawyer. You will learn to grow with these characters as they face life, after school programs, and tests. Happy reading!

I loved it too much!!!!
I picked up this book because I thought that the cover was really creative and I wanted to know what the book was about. This book is told in five different perspectives, so it can sometimes get confusing, but the author wrote it very well. Since there are so many perspectives you can really see how the characters change and develop throughout the book because you read about what everyone thinks about themselves but also how they see others, which makes the book very engaging. These five characters are all in the same class for 6th grade, epic gymnast Randi, football-crazy Gavin, bully on the outside Trevor, always the optimist Scott, and future lawyer Natalie. They might seem like a mismatched group of kids, but they have much in common and many potential things that could bring them closer together, in this case, the dreaded statewide assessment test. It feels like test practice is taking away all the things that these kids look forward most in school, recess, read-alouds, and even after-school programs. The kids realize that if they are going to prove how unjust the test is, then they will have to work together. Told in the perspectives of five seemingly opposite kids, this book will keep you engaged and wondering what crazy scheme will happen next. This relatable book is great for middle shoolers who like realistic humor.
I really liked Rob Buyea’s other books, so I’ve been dying to read this one for a while and it did not disappoint. It was interesting getting to meet all the different characters and to look at their struggles. In light of this, no one was a “bad” person anymore. They all were in the grey. The emotional attachment was quite strong as well. I felt the disappointment and shame radiating from Gavin, and almost wanted to cry along with Randi. Trevor just seemed like a bad kid at the start, but towards the end you start to wonder if he would have been different without his brother. Scott really just stayed Scott, but the best part was seeing Natalie change from an isolated, stuck-up ,Goody-Two-Shoes into a sociable person with real friends who thinks about others.
This book is amazing! All the bits and pieces of the story fit together perfectly. All my students loved it!
