I have thought so long and hard about this book I think I can finally tell you exactly why I loved and hated this book so much. A lot of people's reasons to why they despise this book is simply
SPOILER! DON'T READ THIS IF YOU HAVENT READ ALLEGIANT
that Tris, the main character, dies. And guess what, I had two waterfalls cascading down my face too when I read the end of this novel. I was heart broken-wait-nope.
Still heartbroken
about her death at the conclusion of this story. I really didn't see it coming. I knew that Tris was going to go in for Caleb as soon as he volunteered, but I thought that something was going to happen to save her at the last minute like always.
Four comes back.
Caleb comes and helps Tris fight David.(the serum was already released in the air and long gone when Tris died)
Tris somehow kills David.
SOMETHING!!!!
But no, she died. And I guess I was caught up in what I thought was going to be a happily ever after and boy did I feel the sting from the slap in the face I got at the end. The thing for me is, I liked Veronica's decision for Tris in the end, not that it was enjoyable because it was painful like Hades, but it was right. Tris finally understood what truss self-sacrifice was, and she stated it before her death. What bothered me was that the person who should have heard her define self sacrifice was Tobias. He was the one who needed to know that Tris understood what she was doing, not just being stupid and throwing her life on the line.
I read a lot of comments saying Caleb should have died. But to all of you, a question. Do you love your siblings? Would you die for them, no matter what they had done to you in the past? This book was sad but it was one of my favorites because Veronica shows us that maybe we need to sacrifice ourselves for others, no matter the wrongs they have caused us. We need to forgive and forget, no matter how much the past hurts. I hope I can be like Tris, and have the strength to sacrifice myself to MY brothers and sisters, no matter how they've hurt me. I want to be that kind of person. Do you? can you? WILL you?
I totally understand what you mean, but I believe that there are some things that can't be forgiven. Caleb didn't care if Tris died in Insurgent, he actually had the guts to take his OWN SISTER to her execution for no apparent reason. That's why I think it was stupid of her to sacrifice herself for him. She still loved him, but did he really love her? Obviously, he didn't have enough love towards her to try and stop her from sacrificing herself for him. If Caleb had done more to stop Tris at the very last minute, even with her pointing a gun at him and threatening to shoot him if he tried to stop her, it would have really shown how much he cared for her if he didn't let her go anyway. Even if she did end up going, just the fact that he would in no way let her go because of how much he loved her would make her sacrifice much more meaningful. Instead of seeing her action as selfless, I view it as selfish. She believed that her parents would have been proud, but what about all the people she left behind? Tobias, who spent so much time trying to keep her safe and to stop her from risking her life at every opportunity. Christina, who had already lost all the people she cared so much about (Will, Uriah, Al, etc.) and who Tris had made a promise to in Allegiant to never leave her side. Caleb, even though he was the reason for her death. Now, he was the only one alive in his family. I'm sorry for leaving such a long comment lol, but I just don't think Tris had any reason to forgive Caleb. The way he betrayed her and their family was just unforgivable and I don't think their parents would be proud of her sacrifice. All Caleb cared about was being forgiven so that he could move on with his life. Or at least that's how I see it.
I literally cried when I read this book. It was so sad, I couldn't belive that that actually happened. D; It was a good conclusion, but it was so sad and painful.
I've read this book this is number 3 out of 3 its a great book. a great series. The movie is horrible read the book embrace it live it READ IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
This book is awesome! Plus has more than 900 Lexar level. This book is recommened for Grade 4-9. This book is very intresting.

Some of my rules when reading are: always finish a book, and always finish series. So of course, I had tk read all 3 books. But I'm sorry to say that I was a little dissapointed with the ending.
I loved the whole series, but the first book kind of ruined the whole vibe for me. I'm not saying that you can't kill the main character, it was just everything after that got so sappy and cliche. I want, in lets say, 10 years from now, to be a fourth book where Tris never actually died and was just hiding from those that wanted the society to remain as it always was.
