this book is about experiments, pranks, tragedy, and utter fun! it's very good though i recommend that the postman doesn't leave them in the desert. also i don't recommend the part where Ms. Whaddak doesn't get near murdered. also: note to authors: FINISH THE FREAKING SECOND BOOK ALREADY!
Utomia: The Legend Beyond
By Caitlin Scholl, Neil Mullins
"With Utomia, Caitlin Scholl and Neil Mullins have crafted a marvel. I tore through this book like it was on fire, and when I finished I was heartbroken to leave this world of lizards and bats and meerkats, with its strange concoction of magic and science. I hope they hurry up and finish the next one, because I can't wait to see what happens next." –Jimmy Cajoleas, author of Goldeline
Utomia: The Legend Beyond is the story of Laoch, a talented young lizard uninspired by the slow pace of his small farming community. Laoch spends his time building a secret fort with his brother and two best friends and daydreaming about life in the fabled city of Utomia.
But everything changes when Laoch leads his friends through a series of scientific experiments and something goes drastically awry. A plume of magical purple smoke begins to rise from their village and the greatest powers of the world―including the Utomian Army―take note, quickly mobilizing toward the boys’ small town.
In the first book of this incredible series, Laoch and company venture through a planet of strange beings, secret societies, and time warps enacted by the giant Water Clock that protects the magical city. The boys’ individual journeys bring them closer to the understanding of bravery, love, and the true meaning of friendship as they struggle to save not only their families, but one another.

I read Utomia: The Legend Beyond in about four days and I am only 10! I think Utomia is an easy read chapter book for readers of any age. It’s about a lizard named Loach and his friends and the adventures they have. I liked it so much I stayed up past 10 pm reading it and I can’t wait to give a copy to all of my friends. I rate it a ten outta ten and recommend it to all readers who like adventure, mystery, and fiction. It's the best book I've read so far!
Laoch the Iguana has always been a scientist from the start. In his school, he is known as the troublemaker and the student who never pays attention, which gets his teacher mad all the time. Laoch is training to be a Master Grower in Talamh, but would rather leave to the city of Utomia as an inventor. One day, when a science experiment of Laoch's goes wrong, it sets his school up in mysterious purple flames, which no one has ever seen before. This sends multiple armed forces to Laoch's small town, while Laoch and his friends are off to Utomia to discover the reason of the purple flames. He also finds out about why Utomia has a heavily guarded shield around it. What is Utomia protecting? Will this adventure bring Laoch and his friends together, or will it separate them? Can they figure out how to save their families? To find out, read Utomia: The Legend Beyond. I loved how the main characters were lizards and how the aspects of the plot were interesting. I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars, and recommend it to anyone who loves a good adventure and a mystery.
Completely being honest when i started reading i was like is this book really about a lizard like actually and i was about to put this book down, but as i started reading more and was like a fourth way through the book i just wanted to keep reading. Now a little bit about the book that hopefully gets you interested a lizard named Loach who kind of hates his life he wants to go well beyond his standards now he is a genius lizard he has a secret fort he makes potions he pulls pranks. Now just one prank which i wont give away causes well, something not to good so first of all lets just say smoke starts rise and people notice its evident its purple smoke rising from a tiny town, Utomia army also does. Now the king thinks its a crystal not just any but a real powerful one. Things are not looking to well for Loach at this point clearly. Now Loach has to go to well Utomia as their journey begins they realize what friendship and loyalty is about. If you wanna know what happens next which i'm sure you do go read the book yourself take my word you will love it!
I have never read a book like Utomia: The Legend Beyond before, and am glad I had the opportunity to read this type of book! Loach, Sty, Nudge, and Leeland are a close group of fun-loving friends. But one day, what was meant to be a harmless experiment goes incredibly wrong. Purple smoke appears in the sky, and two different armies come to the boys' village. After Loach and Leeland's parents are captured, the boys find themselves alone. They decide to go to the famous city Utomia. As the boys venture off on their own, their journey brings them closer together and helps them learn the true meaning of friendship and brotherhood. Since I have not read much books with characters add animals, it took a little getting used to. It was also slow at times but overall, it was really well written. This book is good for boys and girls who enjoy adventure books. Thanks Dogobooks for sending me this book!
