The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate is about a gorilla named Ivan, who has two friends named Bob and Stella, who are introduced to Ruby. Ivan promises that he will take care of Ruby, so he is basically abandoning Stella, since he used to take care of her because of her injuries.
If you like animals, this is a perfect book. Who knew a gorilla would have such thoughts?! The narrator is just that: a gorilla. Make sure to check this book out!
This book is really good! It may seem strange that a gorilla lives in a shopping mall that has a zoo, so it is suprising that it is a true story. This story is very heartfelt and is a little sad at times.

How can a gorilla help a baby elephant get to a zoo? Ivan the gorilla lives in a tiny domain at the Big Top Mall and Video Arcade. He has lived there for 27 years without the company of another gorilla, but he isn't completely lonely, he has friends like Bob the dog and Stella the elephant. Ivan doesn't exactly enjoy his life but he has learned to deal with it until a little elephant named Ruby comes to live at the mall. Ivan is suddenly aware of all that is wrong at the Big Top; he makes a promise to a dying elephant that he will get Ruby out of the terrible mall whatever it takes. And if that means getting angry for the ones he loves and wants to protect Ivan will do it. This is an amazing book and every time I read it I feel like I love it even more than before.

Ivan is a gorilla who has lived in a domain for most of his life. He likes watching TV and drawing. But his question is, are there any other of him? He has never seen a gorilla other than himself. He wonders if he's the only one in the world. He thinks of the TV shows he sees, and about his friends Bob and Stella. Bob is a stray dog, and Stella is an elderly elephant. Then he meets a baby elephant named Ruby. Ivan feels like he has a responsibility now that Stella is getting old. This was a heart warming story, and I recommend it to animal readers.

One day, an adorable little elephant named Ruby comes into his life. They become very close, and this friendship affects Ivan in a very big way.
In this book Ivan is really lonely, he misses his parents and his sister. SO when ruby a new baby elephant joined the circus Ivan made it his duty to take care of her. Shortly after Ruby joined an old elephant that was in the circus a long time named stella passed away. Ivan realized ruby thought she was going to die just like stella all alone in a small cage in the circus, so ivan drew a painting and got all of the animals in the circus to go to shelters or zoos. In the end ivan saw that ruby was happy with a bunch of other elephants that took care of her in the zoo.
