This gripping story, written in sparse first-person, free-verse poems, is the compelling tale of Billie Jo's struggle to survive during the dust bowl years of the Depression. With stoic courage, she learns to cope with the loss of her mother and her grieving father's slow deterioration. There is hope at the end when Billie Jo's badly burned hands are healed, and she is able to play her beloved piano again. The 1998 Newbery Medal winner.

This book was a good book, but it had had some sad parts and fun parts

Out Of The Dust had some ups and downs but it was a very good book. Some things I like about Out Of The Dust was it had a good story line and it emphasized hope throughout the story. I also liked how it taught a lesson to never give up. Some things I didn't like about Out Of The Dust was that it was hard to understand and you had to infer a lot of events that took place in the story line. It also had a lot of figurative language which made it harder to understand. Overall the story was really good and taught a good life lesson.

The book got me more interested as I read. It teaches other readers about a harsh time in history, the Dust Bowl, and about Billie Jo's great and depressing times.

The book is about how Billie Jo over comes the challenges of living in the bust storm and the accident that happens during the book.

This book is nothing special. I just don't want to read a 200 page book about somebody complaining about their life.

I thought this book showed a great representation of life in the dust bowl. It also showed how life is good sometimes, and bad sometimes. Overall, this is a great book, and the poem format makes it easy to read.

Out of the Dust is a good book abut a young girl and her life during the 1930's dust bowl. The book was not one I liked and it was no one i enjoyed.

Out of the Dust was a very interesting book. It told a sad story, but it had a happy ending.

Its about a girl who has to deal with the dust storm. She was going through a lot of things during the book and it harmed her. After all she was happy in the end.
