(Mom's Review) I loved this book. I met the author at the Orange County Children’s Book Festival and loved that I found a perfect children’s book about me, “Mixed Me.” I am part Japanese, Black, White, and Native American. So I grew up hearing the question, “What are You?” My response usually was “I am a girl, what are you?” The book is so well written and has a beautiful message for all young children of mixed heritage. It was a book that I could share with my 10 year old daughter and 7 year old son, who are even more mixed than me. I also love that the illustrator is a young artist also of mixed heritage. Definitely a great book that would be a great addition to any elementary school library!
Mixed Me: a tale of a girl who is both black and white
By Tiffany Catledge
Little Mixie wonders why everyone wants to know WHAT she is. Isn't it obvious? She is clearly a human being. And anyway, isn't WHO she is what matters most? Coming from a family with a black dad and a white mom makes her extra special, and maybe a little different too. But different is good. Mixie embraces her uniqueness and determines to be the best "Me" she can be.
