I had to read this book for achool. Bud is abused by his foster family he runs away to do find his father because his mother died when he was at the age six.
Ever since he was 6 years old, Bud has had no mother. The only things she left him were flyers of a band: The Dusky Devastators of the Depression!!!!!! Bud lives in an orphanage called the Home. When he is bullied at a foster home, Bud goes "on the lam" which means he runs away. After he runs away, Bud realizes that he needs to find his father. He starts his search with his mother's flyers. Bud thinks his father has to be Herman E. Calloway. Why else would someone have flyers of his band? Will Bud find his father? This book was really silly, but also sad at the end.

It's awesome!!! at fist I din't want to read it but when i started to i ended up loving it!! Great book!
Bud is his name, not buddy, just Bud. Bud also means 'a flower that isn't fully grown yet'. Bud has everything he needs in his suitcase, not just any suitcase, his suitcase for his special things! Well, except for one thing, his dad, which he thinks is Herman E. Calloway. So, his mission is to find him! Well, let's just say Herman E. Calloway wasn't what he expected. He was old and rude. He couldn't possibly be his father, could he? Well.... when the truth started to unravel, there was a lot of sadness and sorrow. Happy reading!
I loved this book! Bud, not Buddy lives in Flint, Michigan during the great depression. His mother died four years ago and he has bounced from foster homes to more foster homes. But Bud decides to find his dad. He has a special suitcase where he keeps all of his important things from his Momma. Bud knows that Herman E. Calloway must be his father- and will find him no matter what. Along his way, he meets a nice band, finds food at the mission, gets some revenge, and meets some people that help him. I had to read this book for a school assignment and I loved it. Happy reading!
This is a fun story about a boy named Bud doing a mission to find his father. This is the perfect book for everyone in 3rd or more.
I had to read this as an assignment for school, but it was actually pretty good!
I found this book okay. It was sad, and it relied to much on the past. So in this book, Bud wants to find his father, but his mom is dead, which means he;ll have to do it on his own. His only clue is a band flyer that says "The Great Depression". Nonetheless, Bud goes on his journey through adoptive families, pranks, and other places. He meets different people along the way, and his father is not who he thinks he is, or is he?
